Tara is a compassionate and inclusive therapist who is committed to working collaboratively with individuals and/or their families to establish and achieve their personal goals. She uses evidence-based modalities to help enhance the overall well-being of those she works with.
Tara completed her degree in Psychology at St. Francis Xavier University and then obtained both her Bachelor's and Master of Social Work from McGill University. She has over twenty years of clinical experience, which began in the child welfare sector and progressed to children’s mental health. Tara worked for years as a therapist in the 0-6 program empowering and supporting caregivers by offering evidence-informed tools to help respond effectively to children’s challenging behaviors.
For the past 14 years, Tara has worked as a therapist in the division of Adolescent Medicine at McMaster’s Children’s Hospital. Tara has extensive experience working with youth suffering from eating disorders, somatic disorders, conversion disorders, illness anxiety, school-related fears and avoidance, substance abuse, youth struggling with chronic illnesses and gender diverse youth and their families. Tara loves working with children, adolescents, emerging adults, and their families wishing to explore difficulties like anxiety, depression and sadness, mood dysregulation, and relationship difficulties. Tara has a deep commitment to supporting gender diverse youth and their families.
CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Tara engages in supervision and additional training in order to remain up-to-date in the latest and most evidence-based therapeutic approaches. Tara’s training includes; Emotion-Focused Family Therapy Core Clinicians Training, Affirming Social Work Practice with Trans and Gender Diverse Communities, Core Clinical Training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Developing Resilience through Applied Mindfulness, CBT, and more.
